Preguntas frecuentes sobre Cl and pH regulating pumps
What is an automatic pH and chlorine regulator for swimming pools?
An automatic pH and chlorine regulator is a system designed to monitor specific water parameters and automatically manage the dosing of the corresponding chemicals.
Depending on the equipment, it may include probes, a controller, and one or more dosing pumps, or require some of these components to be purchased separately.
Not all regulators measure and control the same parameters, so it is important to check the functions included with each model.
How does automatic pH and disinfectant regulation work?
The system uses the relevant sensors to obtain information about the condition of the water and compares the measurements with the configured setpoints.
When a correction is required, the controller can activate the corresponding dosing pump to add the compatible product according to the equipment settings.
The measurement method, control logic, dosing limits, and safety systems vary between models.
What is the difference between a dosing pump and an automatic regulator?
A dosing pump is responsible for delivering a specific amount of chemical product, but this does not mean that it measures the condition of the water on its own.
An automatic regulator includes or works together with the measurement and control components needed to determine when dosing should take place.
Therefore, when comparing equipment, it is important to check whether it is only a dosing pump or a complete measurement, regulation, and dosing system.
How is pool chlorine controlled automatically?
It depends on the system used. Some regulators use a Redox or ORP probe as a control variable related to the oxidizing capacity of the water, while other equipment may use different measurement technologies.
A Redox reading should not automatically be interpreted as a direct measurement of free chlorine expressed in ppm.
Therefore, before choosing a regulator, it is advisable to check which parameter it actually measures, how it performs the control, and whether it is suitable for the pool’s treatment system.
Which automatic regulator do I need for my pool?
The choice depends on the water volume, disinfection system, products to be dosed, dosing flow rate and pressure, parameters to be controlled, and the hydraulic characteristics of the installation.
It is also advisable to check which probes and pumps are included, the compatible chemicals, the calibration options, and the available alarms and safety systems.
It is not advisable to choose a regulator solely based on the price or the pool’s cubic-metre capacity.
Can I install an automatic regulator in an existing pool?
In many installations, it is possible to add an automatic regulation and dosing system later, but the suitability of the hydraulic and electrical installation must first be checked.
The location of the probes, injection points, and other components must comply with the manufacturer’s layout and take into account the filter, disinfection system, and other installed equipment.
Therefore, it cannot be guaranteed that any regulator can be added to any pool without modifications.
What maintenance do probes and dosing pumps require?
Automatic systems still require maintenance. Depending on the equipment, it may be necessary to check and maintain the probes, dosing pumps, tubing, valves, injection points, and chemical product tanks.
Probes may require cleaning, checking, and calibration according to the procedure and schedule established by the manufacturer.
Components subject to wear, such as certain peristaltic pump tubes, must also be inspected and replaced when necessary.
Does an automatic regulator reduce chemical consumption?
Automatic regulation enables controlled dosing based on the equipment’s measurements and settings, which can help avoid certain unnecessary manual corrections and maintain the parameters more consistently.
However, no percentage of savings should be guaranteed. Actual consumption depends on the water volume, number of bathers, temperature, environmental conditions, water quality, and system operation.
The main advantage of this equipment is the automation and consistency of the treatment, not a guaranteed reduction in chemical costs.
