What it's for
The strainer basket catches leaves, hair and debris before they reach the pump impeller.
Replace it if it is broken, cracked or deformed: a damaged basket lets debris through that can clog or damage the impeller.
Tip: before cleaning the basket, stop the pump and close the valves before opening the strainer cover. When closing it, check that the cover gasket is clean and properly positioned to prevent air from entering.
