Preguntas frecuentes sobre Water treatment and analysis
What does a pool need to keep its water properly treated?
Proper pool water treatment combines filtration, circulation, cleaning, and monitoring of chemical parameters.
It is necessary to maintain an adequate level of disinfectant and monitor parameters such as pH. Depending on the treatment system, water characteristics, and problems that arise, specific products such as alkalinity adjusters, algaecides, flocculants, or clarifiers may also be used.
Not all of these products are needed on a permanent basis: treatment should be adapted to the results of the water analysis and the needs of each pool.
What chemicals do I need to treat my pool water?
It depends on the disinfection system and the condition of the water.
Pool chemicals may include disinfectants, pH adjusters, and other products intended to address specific needs, such as algae, cloudiness, or certain water imbalances.
For example, using chlorine does not mean that it is necessary to add algaecide or flocculant every week. Before adding additional products, it is advisable to test the water and identify which parameter or problem needs to be corrected.
Which pool water parameters should I monitor?
pH and disinfectant levels are among the essential checks, but they are not the only parameters that may be important.
Depending on the pool and the treatment system, it may also be necessary to monitor alkalinity, hardness, stabilizer, or other parameters related to water balance.
The appropriate values and measurement frequency depend on the treatment used, the pool conditions, and the applicable recommendations.
Why is it important to monitor pool pH?
Water pH affects its balance, the performance of certain disinfectants, swimmer comfort, and the installation materials.
For chlorine-treated pools, an approximate range of 7.2 to 7.6 is commonly used as a reference, although the appropriate range should be established according to the treatment system and the relevant recommendations.
Therefore, before adding products to correct a water problem, it is advisable to measure the pH and check whether it needs adjustment.
How do I know which product my pool water needs?
The correct way to decide is to test the water before dosing.
The appearance of the water may provide clues, but it does not allow you to determine precisely which parameter is out of range. For example, cloudy or green water may be related to different disinfection, filtration, circulation, or chemical-balance problems.
Proper testing makes it possible to identify the problem and use only the necessary treatment, avoiding the addition of chemicals without first knowing the condition of the water.
What should I do if my pool water is green or cloudy?
First, test the pH and disinfectant, and check that the filtration and circulation are working properly.
Green water may be related to the presence of algae, but it is also important to determine the conditions that allowed them to appear. Cloudiness, meanwhile, can have different causes and does not automatically mean that flocculant is needed.
Once the problem has been identified, it may be necessary to correct parameters, carry out a disinfectant treatment, brush the surfaces, improve filtration, or use a compatible auxiliary product.
Can I mix different pool chemicals?
Concentrated chemicals must not be mixed directly with one another unless the manufacturer expressly establishes a compatible procedure.
This is especially important with chlorinated products, pH adjusters, and other substances that may react dangerously when they come into contact in concentrated form.
Use each product according to its label and safety data sheet, follow the stated application method, and keep the products in their original containers.
Is public pool water treatment different from private pool water treatment?
Yes. Public-use pools are subject to different control, water-quality, and maintenance requirements from those of a private pool.
In Spain, public pools must comply with the health regulations applicable to their installation and use, as well as any applicable regional or local requirements.
Therefore, the procedures and equipment used in a private pool should not automatically be extrapolated to a public-use facility.
