Preguntas frecuentes sobre dosing pumps for swimming pools
What is a dosing pump used for in a swimming pool?
A pool dosing pump allows a chemical product to be introduced into the water treatment circuit in a controlled manner.
Depending on the equipment and its control system, it can be used to dose pH adjusters, products intended for disinfection, or other compatible treatments.
The pump does not necessarily analyse the water by itself. Some systems incorporate or work alongside probes and controllers that determine when dosing should take place.
What is the difference between a pH dosing pump and a chlorine dosing pump?
The difference depends not only on the pump, but also on the product it can dose and the system that controls its operation.
A pump intended for pH regulation can dose a compatible adjuster according to commands from a pH controller. Other measurement and regulation systems may be used for the automatic control of certain disinfectants, depending on the installation.
Before choosing one, check the pump's chemical compatibility, the product to be dosed, and the control system used.
What is the difference between a peristaltic dosing pump and a diaphragm pump?
A peristaltic pump moves the product by progressively compressing a flexible tube. A diaphragm pump uses the movement of a diaphragm to carry out dosing.
Both technologies can be used in water treatment, but they differ in flow rate, operating pressure, regulation, maintenance, and chemical compatibility, depending on the model.
It cannot be claimed that a peristaltic pump is always more economical or that a diaphragm pump is automatically better. The choice should be based on the installation's actual requirements.
What dosing pump do I need for my swimming pool?
To choose correctly, you need to consider the pool volume, the chemical product to be dosed, dosing flow rate, operating pressure, type of regulation, and the installation's hydraulic characteristics.
It is also important to check the materials that come into contact with the product, the connections, the electrical supply, and whether the pump needs to operate alongside a probe or controller.
Therefore, a dosing pump should not be selected solely based on the pool's cubic metres or its price.
How is a pool dosing pump installed?
Installation depends on the model and must be carried out according to its hydraulic and electrical diagram.
Normally, you will need to consider the chemical product suction line, discharge line, injection point, and, where automatic regulation is present, the corresponding measurement and control components.
The position of these components in relation to the filter, electrolysis cell, other dosing points, and other equipment is important. There is no universal layout that is valid for all pumps and treatment systems.
What maintenance does a dosing pump require?
Maintenance depends on the technology and the model.
With a peristaltic pump, it may be necessary to periodically inspect the peristaltic tube and other wear components. Diaphragm pumps have their own components and maintenance procedures.
Tubes, connections, valves, and the injection point should also be checked as appropriate. If the system incorporates pH probes or other sensors, they will have their own cleaning, checking, and calibration procedures.
There is no universal maintenance or calibration frequency that applies to all equipment.
Can I use any chemical product with a dosing pump?
No. Chemical compatibility is one of the most important factors when choosing a pump.
The product must be suitable for automatic dosing and compatible with the materials of the pump, tubes, seals, valves, and any other components that come into contact with it.
Do not replace one product with another or use different concentrations without first checking the equipment specifications. Concentrated chemical products must not be mixed directly either.
Can I install a pH dosing pump with a salt chlorinator?
Yes, provided the equipment is compatible and the installation is correctly designed.
Automatic pH regulation can be especially useful in swimming pools with salt electrolysis, as it allows the pH to be measured and adjusted automatically when the system includes the corresponding control.
This does not mean that any pump can be connected to any salt chlorinator. You must check the control system, dosed product, connections, probe location, and injection point, and follow the manufacturers' installation diagrams.
